Cox, IFC bring top-notch fight card to Soaring Eagle with IFC EXTREME CHALLENGE
Middleweight Champion, Jeremy Horn, (shown here knocking out Forrest Griffin with a kick) will defend his title at Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, MI on July 10.
With two title fights, two world-ranked heavyweights and the winningest elite mixed martial artist in MMA history and all on Soaring Eagle Casino’s July 10 fight card it’s easy to see why Michigan MMA fans have been excited for the sport’s return to the Mt. Pleasant entertainment hub.
Acclaimed MMA promoter and manager Monte Cox and the legendary MMA promotion IFC have teamed up to bring a 10-fight night to Soaring Eagle.

The main event features an IFC Extreme heavyweight title match between a pair of UFC veterans in Jeff Monson (33-9) vs. Mike Whitehead (24-7). Both men are ranked in the top 20 in the world in the heavyweight division. The co-main event showcases two more UFC veterans in Jeremy Horn (84-19) vs. Sean Salmon (16-7) for the IFC World Middleweight Championship. Horn, the defending champion, is one of the most decorated mixed martial artists the sport has ever seen, having fought in top competition for most of his career all over the world. “Getting those two fights on this card should be something that shows MMA fans this is no ordinary show,” Cox said. “These are recognizable, skilled fighters and they're Jeff Monson not getting a day off fighting lesser opponents. Either one of these bouts is a toss-up.” But, those two fights are just the start. The event will also feature local favorites Chad Herrick, Rick Lictawa and Jason Holmes plus a woman’s fight with Michigan’s own Amanda LaVoy squaring off against California’s Karina Hallinan.

“This event is not just another regional card. The talent assembled here will draw national attention and provide a great night of hard hitting action from IFC Extreme,” says IFC founder Howard Petschler. Cox, known in MMA circles as “The Godfather,” has promoted nearly 600 mixed martial arts events in the last 14 years – having done shows in more than 20 states and around the world. As a manager he has guided the careers of seven UFC champions – more than any other manager. Mike Whitehead He currently oversees a stable of 60 fighters with more than half fighting at the highest levels of the sport, including the UFC, Strikeforce, and Dream. The IFC, founded by Petschler in 1996, is known worldwide for launching the careers of numerous MMA superstars and champions. The IFC was instrumental in the gaining official recognition of the sport in the United States and saving the sport in Canada. Former and current IFC Champions include Chuck Liddell, Eugene Jackson, Rich Franklin, Tim Silva, Jens Pulver, Dan Severn, Igor Vovchanchin, Matt Lindland, Paul Buentello, Jeremy Horn and many other top MMA fighters.
